Brake Performance Differences – BMW vs Formula 1 Car

BMW builds a mighty fine automobile, that’s no secret. However it’s also well known that Formula 1 cars are quite literally the pinnacle of automobile engineering, technology and performance, and in the rare instance we get to see them side by side with a typical car, even one as polished and refined as a Bimmer, that point is really driven home.

This braking comparison video isn’t in English, but it doesn’t need to be for the point to be made. The cars come down the straightaway together and hit the brakes in unison and it doesn’t even look like they’re in the same time-space continuum. The BMW comes to a stop in a respectable 4.05 seconds, but the F1 racer stops in almost half that, coming to a rest in an insane 2.12 seconds, scrubbing off speed in over 100 fewer feet than the Bimmer. Seeing the two cars side by side on the binders really drives home just how quickly the F1 car is able to stop.
