How Fast Does an NHRA Top Fuel Car Go Through a 20+ Gallon Tank of Gas? In Seconds!

When it comes to an NHRA race or any race for that matter, competitors are all bound by the same set of rules and therefore, they have to maximize the efficiency of every last system to make sure that their cars are performing in tip top shape when it comes time to throw down on race day.

This time, we drop in on a race as we’re able to ride along with a competitor and take a look at all of their gauges as they make a pass down the strip. Sure, watching a car from the outside is impressive but seeing what’s actually happening within gives you an all-new insight to how precise these cars can really be.

Now, 22-gallons is a lot of fuel, enough to help most cars travel a couple of hundred miles, but, according to Motor Trend, one of these bad boys goes through just above that amount during a single burnout, stage, and quarter mile pass. In this flick, we watch as a Top Fuel dragster rockets down the track, depleting its entire tank of fuel in just one quarter-mile pass. Heck, a quarter tank is gone by the time the car does it’s burnout and stages up at the light.
