How Much Air Does It Take To BLOW UP A Tire?!

We’re pretty typical guys here at Speed Society, and as such we enjoy watching things blow up. No, we don’t enjoy watching things inflate, we mean explosions! This Vehicle Virgins video takes a couple of tries, but finally delivers at the end!

The clip opens up the test by inflating a new General tire to the maximum PSI the compressor will create – a stout 180 PSI – but the tire takes it like a champ. After that failure, they mount up a worn tire and have the exact same results. So far, tires have 2 points, Vehicle Virgins have 0.

Finally, after rounding up a tire that was already damaged from a curb impact, they managed to cause the tire to fail, and it does so in pretty crazy fashion, blowing a hole in the sidewall where the curb damage had already weakened the tire. The air escapes in a rush and the wheel and tire bounce off the sides of the the tire cage. We got to see our explosion and nobody got hurt, so we call this a win!
