How to Spot a Scam Mechanic and Pick out the Good Ones

One of the scary things about going to get your car repaired is that generally, if you’re taking it to a professional to have it worked on, that professional is aware that you might not be as knowledgeable as maybe you could be given the situation. Because these mechanic shops are aware that the majority of the people who come through their doors might display a lack of knowledge, let’s just say that it takes an honest person to not take advantage of that and unfortunately, as you have probably come to find out, not everybody in this world tends to be as honest as they should be.

We definitely aren’t saying that every mechanic is bad because obviously there are some people out there who truly do good work at a good price and hook people up, using their knowledge for good to help those who really need it and are paying their hard earned money to have their vehicles fixed. On the other hand, though, it’s also good to have a little bit of an idea of what to look for when you head into a mechanic shop as to protect yourself. You know what they say, knowledge is power and in a situation like this, having the right knowledge could come in handy big time.

If you follow along down in the video below, you’ll be able to get a little bit of advice from longtime mechanic, Scotty Kilmer, as he gives us the rundown of some things that you might want to keep your eyes peeled for if you’re the kind of person who wants to have somebody else work on their car and you don’t know all that much about mechanical workings. There’s definitely no shame in having a mechanic do the wrench turning for you but having a little bit of knowledge of your own is definitely something that you might want to consider diving into.
