Nasty Rotary Mazda RX7 Puts Down An Insane 1255RWHP

While many a Maxda has fallen into the “LS Swap the World” movement, there are still a few RX’s out there flying the flag of the venerable rotary powerplant, and some of them are doing big things with them.

This video, posted on Facebook by the Bola De Humo Racing page, is a great look at just how insane one of these engines can be when they’re turned up. With only 15 second needed to get the point across, this raucous RX7 spools up and spins the rollers on this dyno, shifting though the gears and finally dropping the hammer when the driver reaches high enough RPM to unleash the car’s fury.

It takes almost no time for the RPM’s to reach shutdown levels, signaling the end of the pull, which was good for an insane 1,255 horsepower, all from an engine that doesn’t have any pistons in it. That’s right, for those of you out there who don’t know what rotary engines are, they don’t have pistons. Instead, there are a series of “rotors”, triangular components that spin inside an open chamber, exposing and the intake and exhaust ports as they rotate. While in stock form, the rotary in known for it’s simplicity and smoothness, once you turn them up, they can become downright wicked, and they do produce a unique, pretty badass exhaust note while pumping out some ridiculous horsepower levels.

Many will tell you they’re finicky and not worth the trouble – there’s a little more involved in building a max-effort rotary than a piston-powered equivalent. However, there’s something to be said for doing it the hard way, and the is a perfect example of how badass it can be when things come together and stay that way! Hit that play button and watch for yourself as this thing gives the dyno a workout!

Now we are Ready 1255 WHP !!!
