SIDE BY SIDE 4.35 PASSES IN X275 – OSCR

X275 is well known for being a tightly policed class that allows each of the main combinations – turbo small block, supercharged small block, small blocks with multiple nitrous kits and big blocks with a single kit – to all run very close to one another. With fields often separated by less than a tenth of a second and the small 275-wide radial helping keep the more powerful cars honest and giving anybody a shot a taking the win on any given weekend.

If you need any further proof of just how tight things are in the class, this video from TheRacingVids shows two of those combinations lining up and laying down near identical numbers despite some pretty big differences in the setups. In the dark grey Fox Body, Jimmy White has crammed a ProCharged small block under the hood to provide power while Eric Moore in the other lane has chosen a turbocharged small block for his Fox Body coupe.

Both of these guys have shown they were capable of running at the front, having been nipping at the class record coming into the fifth running of the Outlaw Street Car Reunion at historic Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. With the right combination of cool air and Tyler Crossnoe track prep, the stage was set for the 4.35 class record to take a beating, and did it ever.

Moore and White lined up and ripped off the quickest side-by-side pass in class history, both of them laying down the quickest runs under the 2018 rules set on this very pass. While it made for a great race, their jubilation was short lived as former class record holder Shane Fisher followed this run with a 4.352, reclaiming the record temporarily before Rich Bruder absolutely demolished the record with a 4.297 out of he and brother Nick’s blown small block combo.

With the weather starting to warm up, we likely won’t see any more record numbers until the fall, and with the Bruder’s crushing the top number like they did, we may not see another record run for a year or 2, but you can bet the racing will be a close as any class out there, and that’s what makes X275 so awesome!
