Street Outlaws New Orleans small tire badass Bobby Ducote recently sold his fan-favorite Maverick and set out in search of something that could take him to the next level on the streets of the Big Easy.
Ducote took his time and sought out the car he really wanted, instead of settling for a compromise. The search ended when he came across this gorgeous blue 1986 Mustang hatch back. The fox body, which will carry the “Lil Legend” moniker from the Maverick, is a back half style car with ladder bar style suspension and will continue to run on small tires. Power will be provided by the same 436 Kuntz and Co small block Ford powerplant that carried him to the #1 spot on the New Orleans small tire list. A pair of Yates C3 heads send air in from the 1350 cfm Williams carb and out through as set of Woolf headers, while Wiseco pistons, Total Seal rings, GRP billet rods and a Crower billet crank make up the stout bottom end. As before, an Induction Solutions fogger will provide copious amounts of nitrous.
Bolted to the rear of the engine, a Suncoast 1.62-geared powerglide sends the torque rearward to a Mac-Fab 9-inch rear end, featuring a 9.5inch center section with 4.30 gears. American Racing wheels bolt to a pair of 40-spline axles, while Afco shocks and struts handle the suspension duties. Torque converting duties will be handled by a Suncoast bolt-together 10-inch converter from their upcoming “Lil Legend” series of converters.
Look for the car to be making waves soon, as it is ready to hit the streets now! We’re not going to let all of the info out of the bag, but this car is a featherweight and should be considerably quicker than the Maverick, which already made a name for itself beating up on all comers, small- and big-tire alike.
