The Dodge Demon Unleashed | Challenger SRT Demon | The Final Commercial

To say Dodge has dropped a bombshell is akin to calling King Kong a monkey. Yesterday, after a months-long build up, the automaker pulled back the cover and revealed a legitimate street/strip muscle car, essentially creating a new niche in the marketplace, and we can only hope Ford, Chevrolet and others follow suit.

Dubbed the Demon, Dodge’s new quarter mile killer features a host of firsts, from features to accomplishments, that set it far apart from any other car you can currently buy. The car rides on drag radials, the only car to ever come factory equipped with super-stickies out back. The transmission, a drag-strip-optimized automatic, features a transbrake that locks low gear and reverse together and allows the engine to spin freely. When it’s released, reverse disengages and low gear plays hell on the rear tires as the power is sent rearward in an instant. The car also features a higher-than-normal torque converter stall speed that gets the engine into the meat of the power curve quicker and keeps it there longer.

To assist in getting the drag radials nice and hot, the car also has a line lock that holds the front brakes while letting the rears spin freely, saving unnecessary wear on the brakes while doing a burnout. Under the hood, an all new supercharged Hemi, not the beefed up Hellcat Hemi as predicted, sends 840 HP to the pavement, propelling the Demon to the quickest ever 0-60 and quarter mile times for a production car.

We can’t wait to see what this does for the already-heated horsepower wars in and around Detroit. Hopefully things will only continue to escalate, as long as the government doesn’t step in and squash the fun!
