“The Entire Hyperloop Could be Destroyed in SECONDS!”

If you’re excited about the Hyperloop, you may not want to watch this video, because this guy just might burst your bubble. However, for those of us out here who like to look at both sides of the proverbial coin, this video does offer some excellent counterpoints to all of the hype surrounding the proposed revolutionary transportation method.

The twelve minute video opens with an eye-opening look at what happens when a tube collapses under the pressure of a vacuum, and it’s intense to put it mildly. Imagine, if you will, a pod full of people being in the tube when such a failure occurs and it’s not hard to picture what a disaster that would be.

Beyond that, the video breaks down the proposed speeds and just how unlikely it is that the Hyperloop will ever actually reach them, especially if you watch the included tests. Of course, we know the technology is very much still emerging and the testing is really just getting under way, but they have set some lofty goals for themselves with proposed speeds north of 600 miles per hour. The magnetic levitation system should keep the pods in a nearly friction-free state and the vacuum tube should eliminate air resistance, so theoretically the speeds seem achievable but the tests we’ve seen are a far cry from hitting the sound barrier.

Of course, we have to assume the teams behind the Hyperloop competition entries are dealing with these proposed issues as they design their pods. We also have to believe that there’s some kind of proposed way to protect the integrity of the tube itself from collapsing under the pressure of being vacuum sealed. What do you think, does this video express valid concerns about the Hyperloop or is this just another conspiracy theorist on the internet who just likes to stir things up.
