Time Lapse of Antron Brown’s New-Look Mello Yellow Wrap

As part of the biggest race of the year on the series, the NHRA announced that it has reached an agreement with Mello Yello to extend the drink’s run as the series sponsor. To celebrate the extension of the sixteen year relationship and the drink’s future with the sport, three-time Top Fuel series world champion Antron Brown unveiled a new wrap bearing the brand’s familiar yellow hue to accompany Brown’s Matco Tools/US Army/Toyota livery.

“I’m real excited to have Mello Yello join Matco Tools, the U.S. Army, and Toyota on our racecar for the U.S. Nationals,” and excited Brown said at the car’s unveiling. “Mello Yello is the fuel that has driven our sport to the level it’s at today. It’s a real honor to be asked to represent Mello Yello like this at our biggest race of the year.”

Antron brought the car, which had been kept under a cover in his pit throughout the day, to staging for the unveiling of the new design just before Friday’s opening qualifying session. He followed the reveal with a great 3.689 elapsed time that qualifies him in third place after the first day of competition. “With as tough as the competition is now in Top Fuel, having Mello Yello on our car can only give us a little extra boost in the tank so we can really Go On Yellow at The Big Go” added Antron.

Below, a short video shows Don Schumacher Racing’s in-house graphics man applying the new wrap to Antron’s car last week at DSR’s headquarters in nearby Brownsburg, IN. The graphics are all applied in sections to make them a little easier for one guy to handle. The vinyl goes on in layers, with the sponsor logos being the final step. If you ever wanted to know how these cars get their look, and how the can change them so easily from race to race, this video tells a lot of that story.
