Travis Pastrana Destroyed the Mt. Washington Hillclimb Record

To say Travis Pastrana is a man of many talents would be a gross understatement. From jumping dirt bikes to dizzying heights while doing insane tricks, many of which he has been the first to do, to drifting a massive RV, there seems to be little the man can’t do, especially if he’s behind the wheel or hanging onto the bars.

Pastrana has long been a fan and participant of rally racing, winning quite often in the the states, both in Rally America competition and the X Games. Adapting well to life on dirt with four wheels instead of two, Pastrana has been nearly dominant in the X Games Rally competition while winning four consecutive driver’s titles in Rally America, the most in series history. Pastrana also puts his rally skills to the test in other ways, such as breaking records in hill climb events like the Mount Washington Auto Road hillclimb.

Not only did Pastrana break the record in his factory-sponsored Subaru WRX, he shattered it, bettering the old mark by almost half a minute. Pastrana’s time was the first ever to be clocked under six minutes for the 7.6 mile course. The new benchmark is 5:44.72 and will stand for at least three years due to the hillclimb being held only once every three years. Pastrana’s Subie was built to handle the transition from asphalt to gravel midway up the winding road and pumps out around 600 HP to motivate it up the course in record time. This was also the first time co-drivers were not allowed on the course, meaning Pastrana had to memorize every single foot of the road and navigate the course using only his memory, making his record run all the more impressive. We won’t know until 2020 if anybody will be able to eclipse Pastrana’s time, but something tells us he will be there to reclaim the throne if his number is bested.
