Why The Pontiac Fiero GT is So Terrible, Yet So Great!

There aren’t too many vehicles that are as polarizing as the Pontiac Fiero. While the car most certainly does have a sort of cult following and people tend to be interested in the small mid-engined platform, it also has a rather large group of people who see it as nothing more than a discernible turd, for lack of better words. Honestly, to someone who has taken a good look at the Fiero and has seen other similar body styles rise and fall, it’s kind of interesting to think about why the car didn’t quite make it. Sure, there are some of them floating around out there but it never really caught on as a popular machine.

With such a nimble setup that could be contorted and twisted and all sorts of different ways, the Pontiac Fiero GT would seem like a car that enthusiasts would try to get their hands on and modify down to the nuts and bolts. While some definitely did do this, The numbers really weren’t that plentiful, seeing as the car would immediately take a dive into the graveyard of failed Pontiac designs. This time, we got a little bit deeper into the car to see exactly what it’s all about and how exactly Pontiac missed the mark ever so slightly, or widely, depending on who you ask.

Follow along down in the video below that allows you to dive into this machine with That Dude in Blue as he takes us into the ins and outs of such a car, discussing the stigmas around the Pontiac Fiero and giving us his opinion on what he thinks of the bite-sized machine. We have seen these things used as everything from road course racing machines to street racing sleepers and we still, to this day, are trying to figure out where exactly to put this thing in the hierarchy of performance.
