For over three decades, this behemoth diesel powerplant stood as the largest diesel engine on the planet. Standing 4 stories high over 80 feet wide, this engine churns out 22,500 horsepower and provided the city of Copenhagen with electricity until the 1970’s.

The engine, which is now part of an interactive museum, is still fired up on the first and third Sunday of every month and runs for 5 to 10 minutes, a true testament to the quality and dedication that went into its construction as it nears 100 years of operation.

If you’re ever in Denmark, be sure to plan a stop by the DieselHouse museum, where you can see this massive engine and several other historical diesel engines in action, along with many other interactive exhibits.
