You Just Ruined Everyones Night – Speeding Driver Derails Tram

The Road cam YouTube channel has become an excellent source of material for those who just want to sit back and watch fail after fail captured up close and personal by dashcams and traffic cameras. With millions of motorists on the roads daily across the nation and around the world, there’s obviously plenty of opportunities for accidents to happen, and thanks to these cameras becoming more and more popular each day, it’s getting easier and easier to get this footage out to the public.

While much of what we see on channels like this is funny or minor, we do occasionally see a tremendous impact that looks like it could have some life-or-death consequences. This clip is certainly of the latter variety. With very little time needed to tell the story, this video is 36 seconds long and even includes a slow-motion replay and an intro and outro, but once you see it for yourself, you’ll understand why just a few seconds of footage is more than enough.

A trolley slowly trundles into the frame of this traffic camera from right to left, appearing to be any run-of-the-mill crossing when out of nowhere a speeding minivan plows into the side of the people mover at a frightening rate of speed. While it doesn’t look possible that the driver was slowing down based on the speed and the impact, you can see in the slow-motion replay that the third brake light was on at the moment of the collision. The van is tossed several feet into the air before slamming back to earth. The trolley, while not completely destroyed, was knocked from it’s tracks and sent skidding across the roadway while sparks from the overhead power lines flash blue and white. We have no information as far as injuries or fatalities, but judging by the brutal force of this incident, it seems like there were at least injuries to anybody riding in the van.
