Our friend and partner Hans Pierre Jr from Free Life Films made the long haul from Florida to Las Vegas to capture all of the action at the 14th running of the Street Car Super Nationals last weekend. As always, Hans captured quite literally everything that happened on the track, including the headlining class, Pro Mod!

During Thursday night testing, promoter Mel Roth dropped a challenge on the field, offering up a stack of cash to the Pro Mod that put up low elapsed time of the session. Hans took us through staging to get a look at the competitors lined up to take their shot at the cash and the bragging rights before heading trackside to catch all of the action.

It took quite literally just one pair for a huge number to be put on the board when Rick Hard took his Maximum Effort IV C7 Corvette down the Sin City 1320 in just 5.524 seconds at exactly 267 MPH. The rest fo the field would line up to take their shots at Hord’s benchmark, but the number would end up standing as the low ET of the day.

There were several racers who came close, including Ed Thornton and his sleek blue 2nd Gen Camaro. Thorton would fall short of the elapsed time of Hard with a very solid 5.63 and actually out-MPH’d Hard by a full 5 ticks on the speedometer, putting 272.06 across the bottom of the scoreboard in his lane.

While he came up well short of taking the top spot, my good friend Rodney Butler, who made the long drive west from Lawrenceburg, TN in his matte black Pontiac-powered Firebird. The 6.119 elapsed time and 232 MPH speed were both good for new world records for a Pontiac-powered door slammer. Butler is the leading authority on Pontiac power in the nation and possibly in the world, so it’s great to see him back behind the wheel and setting records again. I expect Rodney to be knocking down that “first Pontiac-powered door car in the 5’s” barrier very soon.

Congrats to Hard, Butler and everybody else at SCSN 14 who put up these huge numbers, and thanks as always to Hans and Free Life Films for the awesome footage!
