52 Vortech Ford Mainline At Outlaw Armageddon No Prep

Outlaw Armageddon gets a lot of hype because it is the one event that you can almost guarantee will feature most, if not all, of the Street Outlaws crew as well as the biggest names in the no prep world on the same property. However, it’s also known for bringing out some lesser-known cars and all new combinations that hope to sneak up on the field without warning and take the win at one of the most prestigious events in no prep racing.

One such hotrod that got a lot of attention was this ’52 Ford Mainline that competed in the Small Tire class at this year’s Armageddon event, held at Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Noble, OK. The vintage Ford looked like it rolled right out of 1952, even wearing a little patina to really give it that “nothing to see here, folks” look.

However, it doesn’t take a lot of searching to find the massive Vortech supercharger sticking out of the front grille opening, a dead giveaway that there is more than meets the eye with this beast. Of course, one turn of the key and the sound coming from the car would eliminate any doubts as to what is going on here.

It’s hard to call a car with a giant supercharger a sleeper, but the car looks like it’s still toting a lot of weight and could possibly be somewhat streetable with, although it’s really hard to say these days what qualifies as a “streetable” ride.

The Mainline lays down a nice smoky burnout, then backs into it’s fresh rubber patches, theoretically creating the most race-ready surface possible at a no prep event. The driver then guides the car to the starting line, drops the hammer and lays down a solid looking run. I’m not sure how well the car did at the race, but it certainly looked to be a solid contender on this pass, at least. Photo credit – John Galbraith
