Big Money $100K+ Buggy Crashes Hard At The Glamis Sand Drags!

Sometimes it takes a several minutes of video to tell a story, and sometimes it just takes a few seconds. While we’re left a bit short on context and don’t really have too much information about the buggy itself, these twelve seconds of footage are more than enough to show just how quickly things can go wrong, and that there is always someone there with a camera to capture whatever happens.

We’ll start with what we do know. This video was posted about a year ago with the title “Glamis Halloween drag race accident 2016”. It opens with a couple of buggies streaking through the frame and high speed, slinging sand in the air behind them as they sprint toward the unseen finish line. You can see the crowd’s reaction as the buggies fly past, then suddenly their demeanor changes as it is obvious they see something unexpected and begin pointing and yelling. The camera turns a bit to the right just in time to catch one of the high dollar rigs flying through the air, catapulted high into the sky and flipping end over end multiple times before crashing hard to the ground. It appears the buggy was in the air for a couple hundred feet, meaning it had to be screaming across the sand when the driver lost control.

There’s really not much else to say about this, other than we hope nobody on board was injured. While the crash looked pretty devastating, these buggies are usually equipped with a host of safety gear and they’re built to withstand anything the desert can throw at them. Plus, in terms of places you want to crash, the relatively soft sand seems like it would be at least marginally better than asphalt or even dirt, so hopefully everybody onboard was okay. Things happen quickly in the desert at these speeds, so if you happen to be in one of these buggies, make sure you’re strapped in just in case things take a turn for the worse.
