Dale Earnhardt Jr. reacts to Jimmie Johnson winning his seventh NASCAR championship!
Jimmie Johnson just won his seventh NASCAR points championship, tying him with two of the sports most legendary figures: Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt. To say Johnson is in the company of greatness is a gross understatement, as Petty and Earnhardt are almost unanimously the most popular drivers to ever climb behind the wheel of a stock car.
Many fans may say Johnson’s wins don’t mean as much since the advent of the “Chase” system of crowning a champion doesn’t necessarily mean the driver who earns the most points on the season will walk away as champion. However, the modern era of NASCAR does have perhaps the greatest parity among teams, meaning driver skill could be a larger factor than previously. Regardless of how or why, Johnson raced his way to his seventh title and Dale Earnhardt Jr was there to celebrate with him in victory lane.
Earnhardt Jr heaped praise upon Johnson during the interview, declaring him one of the best drivers the sport has seen in a long time. When asked what his late father would think about Johnson’s performance, Junior replied “Dad would think he’s such a badass,” bestowing some high praise upon Jimmie on behalf of Dale Sr. Huge congratulations go out to Jimmie Johnson on his historic championship from all of us here at Speed Society!
