With pickup trucks these days, there are certainly a lot of different options to choose from. Even when it comes to selecting which engine is best for a specific application, there are several different choices with each brand. Long gone are the days where trucks might’ve offered up a lackluster and inefficient V6. These days, the choice gets a little bit tougher. It seems like the smaller displacement options are not only getting more efficient as time goes on but are also closing the gap between themselves and their V8 counterparts. It might not be long before they end up taking the lead as the more powerful options.
This time, we take an interesting look that doesn’t compare these lower displacement options to their V8 superiors. Instead, it compares them to one another. Both Chevrolet and Ford actually offer up a 2.7 L boosted application. In the Chevrolet Silverado, we look at it in an inline four-cylinder engine with a single turbo. In the Ford F-150, we take a look at the growing-in-popularity twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost. So, with similar applications with very similar displacement, which one is going to be the top performer?
One would think that, for the vast majority of folks who end up in pickup trucks like these, the 0 to 60 time and speed metrics aren’t really going to be all that important. However, measuring the pair of trucks up against one another on this axis is certainly a lot of fun. This time, TFLTruck takes the liberty of putting the Chevrolet and Ford up against one another to see which one is quicker with the help of a V Box to measure their acceleration via GPS. This is an unlikely throwdown but one that has certainly gained our attention. Who will reign supreme? Only one way to find out!
