Dale Jr. Describes How he Got Fired From His Dad’s Car Dealership

The one thing that we don’t think about many of our favorite celebrities is that they were everyday people before they blew up in many cases. Sure, some definitely have a little bit of an edge. For example, having the last name “Earnhardt” certainly isn’t going to hurt you in the world of racing. However, Dale Earnhardt Jr. definitely doesn’t seem to be one who had everything handed to him on a silver platter.

If we asked Junior himself, he would probably tell us that things were a struggle when he was younger. In this particular clip from The Dan Patrick Show, we learn that Junior didn’t have an abundance of money. In fact, he was working for just $120 a week at a car dealership.

It turns out that new management didn’t exactly have the same vision as Junior and he ended up getting booted.

When Junior refused to stay after work, unpaid, for a meeting, things didn’t go so smoothly with his boss. Even though the dealership belonged to Dale Jr’s father, Junior would be fired later that day.

As it turns out, things didn’t end up going so bad, though. Instead of skipping a beat, Junior would hop right back into the action, helping out with his sister’s racing team while earning more money than he did at his old job. Eventually, he would put together a racing career that would leave all of these memories behind in the dust.

These days, we’re sure that he’s able to laugh at the irony of the situation. However, by listening in with the video below, we get to hear about how it was a little bit more serious at the time. I guess that this just goes to show you that when one door closes, lots of times, another door is going to open right up.
