Driver Mod Engaged! Driver Loses Control, And Almost Crashes

There’s something to be said for a driver who can keep his cool when things go sideways, figuratively and literally, on the racetrack. The lift-only-if-you-absolutely-have-to world of grudge racing features some of the unsung heroes of the hired driver world, but with the help of guys like Justin Malcom from the JMalcom2004 channel, we’re trying to introduce these guys to the world.

While we only know him as “Robbie”, according to the name on the window of the cool blue Fox Hatch known as ICEY, this driver clearly deserves to be credited for the awesome save in the second pass in this video. The first pass, we get to see how things should go, with Robbie and ICEY laying down a great a-to-b pass with a nice little wheelstand off the line to flex the small block nitrous powerplant’s muscles a bit.

The second pass, however, doesn’t go according to plan, at least not based on what we saw from the car the first trip down Carolina Dragway. The House of Hook lived up to it’s billing as ICEY once again hiked the nose up into the air when Robbie let go of the button, but as soon as the front wheels returned to earth, the car decided that was enough good behavior for one day.

The car made a slight move to the left toward the retaining wall, dropping the wheels off into Carolina Dragway trademark grass strips. As you might imagine, any car on drag radials and skinny front runners doesn’t do well driving in the grass, so the car immediately goes across the track toward the other wall. However, Robbie managed to correct the steering enough to turn the nose fo the car back toward the finish line.

Despite the appearance of being destined to smack not one, but both walls, Wheelman Robbie managed to keep the car from hitting either, as well as keeping the shiny side up. That, ladies and gentlemen, is cool under pressure.
