How Much Power Does a STOCK 93 Mustang Cobra Make Years Later? Dyno Doesn’t Lie!

From the factory, the 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra cranked out 235 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, at least according to Ford. It’s pretty crazy to take a look back in time and see what was considered the fastest back then. In 1993, a brand-new Cobra was one of the cars to have. Get spotted rolling around in the streets in this thing and you’re certainly going to draw a little bit of attention. In addition, the power that the car was cranking out was more than enough to get around the streets faster than most production vehicles of that age.
These days, obviously, those power figures certainly aren’t going to cut it in the modern performance landscape. In fact, there are plenty of cars that are making over 300 hp that don’t even consider themselves performance vehicles. These days, any V8 powered Mustang is pushing 500 hp right out-of-the-box. When it comes to higher trim level Mustangs, we see machines like the Shelby GT500 making 760 hp.
This time, though, we take a trip down memory lane. Instead of looking at the latest and greatest technology on the market, we flash back to the past. As far as the Fox Body Mustang goes, our host in this video from Late Model Restoration says the cars were underrated from the factory. This meant that somebody could very well get a more powerful car than they were promised.
With that in mind, with this one, we find our way to the dyno to see what this particular machine is capable of. With the underrated factor coming into play along with the idea that the car might have lost a step since it’s more than 25 years old, it should be an interesting experiment.
By following along with the video below, we tune in with the classic to see exactly what it’s capable of. All of these years later, will the Cobra still be able to make good power?
