Vehicles Affected

Ford will be recalling a massive number of vehicles for a recall related to the suspension. From what we understand, there will be 240,000 vehicles that Ford is going to want to check into a second time. Included in the bunch are theĀ Ford Flex, Taurus police car, Taurus SHO and Lincoln MKT from 2013 through 2018 model year. The vast majority of this recall is related to vehicles sold in North America.

Suspension Issues

The recall is related to the rear toe links. Ford says that with volatile suspension movement, the links will fracture. Toe links are the component that keeps tires pointed in the right direction. In a best-case scenario with worn toe links, such a failure could increase tire wear. With a worst-case situation, things could tend to get downright dangerous.

When it comes to the words that automakers pretty much never want to hear or say, I would think that “recall” would be up near the top of the list. There’s nothing that deflates a bottom line more than repairing cars that have already been sold. In turn, they end up getting absolutely no return on the money spent. In addition, these recalls could cause an impact to the brand. One never knows how the public is going to respond when learning about shortcomings in production.

In a game where competition is high, you have to be on your game. It can be a challenge when it comes to designing a product that people are going to want to buy repeatedly. One of the main components there is that it isn’t going to come back through your doors at the end of the day for you to start wrenching on again.

Owners will be notified at the beginning of next month if their vehicles fall under the recall.
