Ford Responds to Musk’s Cybertruck vs F-150 Tug-of-War, Implies Unfair Demonstration

For those who haven’t been paying close attention, allow us to fill you in. The other night, we saw Tesla unveil what might be the most controversial vehicle of the decade. Better late than never, I suppose.

However, for Elon Musk, simply pulling the covers off of the off-beat pickup wasn’t the end of the story. In order to demonstrate what the Tesla Cybertruck is capable of, he took the liberty of making some comparisons. One of these comparisons would have the truck out dueling a Porsche 911 in a drag race. The other would put the Cybertruck against a Ford F-150 in a tug-of-war. Naturally, the truck being unveiled won the battle handily.

So far as we know, Porsche hasn’t responded to the comparison. What really is there to say about their high-end sports car getting handled by an electric pickup truck? That’s probably not a can of worms that the company would like to open up.

Ford, on the other hand, appears to feel a bit slighted by the comparison. In fact, the comparison prompted a response from the Vice President of Ford X, Sundeep Madra. The division essentially helps to bring along potential new business ventures for Ford. He tweeted that he could help Musk with an “Apples to apples” test.

Sure, the trucks are both technically light-duty half-ton pickups. However, it would appear as if maybe the test left out a few details. Motor1.com reports that the Ford in the video below can be seen spinning just its rear wheels. This could possibly indicate that it’s only sending power to the rear wheels as opposed to the Tesla’s AWD configuration. They also guessed that the truck was likely powered by the 2.7-liter EcoBoost.

In a battle where traction and weight are of utmost importance, the Tesla is obviously going to have the edge. Batteries are heavy, after all, and having four tires to help grip would help the cause. Is there a better match from Ford? It looks like we might just find out.

Musk’s response to all was a simple tweet that said “Bring it on.”
