Good Guy Cop Lectures Wheelie Biker Instead of Taking his License

When viewed from the outside, something that a lot of people might not understand is just how difficult of a job police officers have. I think that most people have the common sense enough to realize that the job is definitely one that’s more dangerous than most, however, even in the day-to-day decision-making, officers are tested regularly with an incredibly difficult series of choices where they have to find that happy medium between helping the community to get better through explanation or demonstration and picking out the people who really need to be punished in order to help rehabilitate them to operate well with the rest of society.

This time, we check out a situation that foregoes the punishment route in favor of explanation as a police officer catches a motorcycle rider doing something that maybe he shouldn’t be. It seems like, after being caught in the middle of a wheelie display, the rider notices that he got caught and that he messed up, completely cooperating with the officer and being polite, trying to make this traffic stop go as smoothly as possible. This is when we get to listen in to a conversation that really helps you to believe that some people are out there really trying to help their community be a better place.

If you follow along in the video below, you’ll watch quite the interesting teaching moment that helps to convey a little bit of perspective as this officer takes his time and explains to the rider here exactly why his actions aren’t necessarily in his best interest or the best interest of others and it really goes beyond simply acting out in traffic. You’d be inclined to think that after something like this and the way that it was presented, not only does it help out someone who really probably doesn’t deserve to be paying hundreds of dollars a month of an increase in insurance but also probably spoke to this young man, hopefully helping him to make better decisions in the future. Long story short, I think many would agree that the strategy executed by this officer will yield some much more desirable results in the long haul.
