How Important is Wheel Size in Racing? G-Body Runs on 24s and a Drag Pack to Show You

If you find yourself trying to explain drag racing to someone who has never done it before, it can really be complicated to remember everything that you know about going fast and convey it to them to explain just how difficult it can really be. Most people might think it’s as simple as getting behind the wheel of a fast car and jamming the accelerator down to the ground, magically coming up with a formula that will equate to a desirable elapsed time whether it be in the quarter or eighth mile. However, as you, the racer know, it’s a little bit more difficult than that and might just require a little bit more thought power to make it all come together.

One of the aspects that the novice drag racer might not exactly think about is that of wheel and tire composition. Not only do you have to get yourself a nice tire compound under your ride but having the right size wheels is pretty important as well. In this video, we find out perhaps just how important that aspect might exactly be. While watching the JMalcom2004 YouTube channel, it’s lots of fun to watch the cars that are sporting massive wheels, this time amounting to 24-inches in diameter, as they scoot their way down the strip, acting as a sort of sleeper. However, this time, we check out one of those insanely fast cars on big wheels to see what it would look like when the wheels are replaced with a more appropriate set that’s designed for drag racing.

Sure, in this scenario, the Chevrolet Monte Carlo pictured might not be a slouch on the first pass as it definitely makes a pretty impressive run for the size wheels it’s sporting but in the second pass, with a newfound set of wheels and tires, the car really manages to get down, pushing its way down the track in a hurry, making the former version of itself on a bigger wheel and tire look like a slug out there! It’s almost like an entirely new car, even with just that simple swap.
