Jeff Lutz Chevy Launches Like a Bat Out Of Hell!

Drag Week legend and Street Outlaws star Jeff Lutz has always had a knack for making his cars work in any conditions. When he retired his Mad Max pro mod-style Camaro and started building another wicked 1957 Chevy, he built the car with the express intention of making sure it would hook on any surface.

Jeff shared in-progress photos with us back in 2016 as he was working on the car as time allowed. The engine is set back low in the car to put as much weight on the rear tires as possible, a key factor in making the car bite hard. I’m sure there are other tips and tricks in the rear suspension that help the car find traction and track straight and true, but the chassis builder isn’t coming off of those secrets.

Drag Week is held on drag strips, so it’s a little easier to make the car hook there, but when Lutz decided to put the car on the street for the show, he knew traction would be at a premium. However, as you can see in this testing video, he’s definitely got the car figured out.

With Farmtruck playing the role of flagger to simulate real race conditions, Lutz pulls the car to the line, hit’s the transbrake button and begins spooling the massive turbochargers. With the snails spinning and pumping the big block full of compressed air, Lutz unleashes the full fury of the boosted powerplant and absolutely punishes the concrete.

The rear tires twist and bite the surface hard, planting the wheelie bars as the car blasts toward the finish line. You can tell from this video just how quick the car accelerates and, as Farmtruck quips from just off camera, makes such a solid hit that Lutz has to get on the brakes hard to get the car stopped in the space provided.

If you’ve been watching this season of Street Outlaws, you know Lutz has had the car working well and has become a constant presence on the list. With passes like this on tap, there’s no reason for him to not be gunning for the #1 spot on the list.
