Joey Logano Wins The 2018 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Championship

The 2018 NASCAR season was one for the ages! The season started with the famed number 3 being in the winner’s circle at Daytona for the first time since we lost Dale Earnhardt Sr. in 2002, Then we witnessed the emergence of a hot young star in Chase Elliott, who earned his first 3 career wins. This year also saw the debut of a new track concept, “The Roval” in Charlotte, where Ryan Blaney took the win. And finally, we learned that Jimmie Johnson is not only going to be racing the 2019 season without signature sponsor Lowe’s, who announced their departure from the racing industry, but also that he will be without the services of Chad Knaus, only Crew Chief he’s had throughout his career, as he is parting ways with the 48 team to serve as crew chief on the 24.

Coming into the final race of the season, it was narrowed down to 4 drivers. Defending series Champion Martin Truex Jr, whose team will be closing its doors following this season. Obviously Truex would love to repeat as Champion and go out on the high note as a 2x series champ with Furniture Row before he joins Joe Gibbs Racing next season. Kyle Busch, who has won 8 races to get to this point, and been one of the most dominant drivers so far this season. Kevin Harvick came into the race without his crew chief after suffering a penalty after his big win in a must win situation in Texas a couple of races ago. Harvick also won 8 races so far this season. Finally Team Penske driver Joey Logano, who hasn’t made any friends this season having moved Truex Jr to win a race. Logano comes in as the current points leader, and the only of the 4 driver without a previous points Championship.

Joey Logano would take the lead after a restart with 20 laps to go passing Martin Truex Jr, and never looking back. Joey had clearly the fastest car on short runs, and it showed as he pulled further, and further away securing his first career Championship, and yet another for famed racing team owner Roger Penske.
