Listen to Chevy’s V12 ZR-12 Corvette That Nobody Knew Existed

For those who would consider themselves Corvette aficionados, they might know a little bit more about the cars than most. Part of the fun of being a member of a fan club like this is getting into the nitty-gritty and the detail. However, this time, we happen to stumble upon a car that a lot of the big Corvette fans might not even know about. The machine is very interesting as a concept and really leads our minds to wonder what would have happened if it ever caught on.

As we know the Corvette “ZR” today, we have the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 which is the only Corvette in the ZR family. However, at one point in time, there were talks of something by the name of a Corvette ZR-12.

As a pretty big Corvette fan myself, hearing about this left me wondering. Upon first reading about it, I thought it might’ve been some sort of custom creation built in a garage somewhere. However, it most definitely is something that came from the folks at General Motors. Featured at the Corvette Museum, we get to see the machine and actually hear it fire up for quite a unique exhaust note.

As it turns out, the car was actually built in response to the rising popularity of the Dodge Viper of the time. When the Viper wowed onlookers with a V10 configuration, it seems like Chevrolet had intended to one-up them with a V12. However, eventually, General Motors decided that they didn’t think more cylinders would sell a car. As such, the model would fall into GM folklore as the idea never made its way to the assembly line.

However, all these years later, this idea has us thinking about different possibilities. What if the Corvette was produced with a 12-cylinder variation? Would the landscape look completely different these days? Given the success of the model, maybe it’s best that this concept was left behind even though we do have to admit that it’s pretty cool to dig into.

Below, DtRockstar1 gives us a better idea of what this thing is all about.
