Former NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was involved in quite the scary situation on Thursday. Following a plane crash, both Junior, his wife, and his 1-year-old daughter were on an airplane that ran off of the runway.

Following the incident, the airplane went up in flames at the Elizabethton Municipal Airport in Tennessee. Luckily, Elizabethton fire chief Barry Carrier reported that nobody was killed in the incident. Nobody suffered life-threatening injuries but Junior was transported to a local hospital with “cuts and abrasions.”

We’re told that in addition to Earnhardt and his family, the family dog and one other passenger were on board. As of now, we have no information on what caused the incident.

Kelley Earnhart would take to Twitter to say “I can confirm Dale, Amy & Isla along with his two pilots were involved in a crash in Bristol TN this afternoon. Everyone is safe and has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation. We have no further information at this time. Thank you for your understanding.”

This sentiment was confirmed by the FAA who says no injuries were reported to them.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., his family escape plane crash in Tennessee without serious injuries

NEW: Video shows thick, black smoke rising from the site of a small plane crash that was carrying Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and his family. Everyone on board, including Earnhardt, escaped the wreck, said the local sheriff.

The airport is in close proximity to Bristol Motor Speedway where NASCAR will be racing this weekend. Presumably, that’s where the family was on their way to. Earnhardt’s next appearance is scheduled in commentary as the Monster Energy Series takes on the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race. The race will happen this Saturday at 7:30 PM.

We have no word on if Dale will resume his role in the broadcast booth for this weekend or not. It would be completely understandable if he were to decide to take the weekend off.

Junior has yet to make a public statement on the incident. Stay tuned to Speed Society for any and all updates on the situation.
