New Electric Powered COPO Camaro To Change Landscape Of Drag Racing?

It seems like every day in the automotive performance sector, things are evolving in one way or another and perhaps the most recent evolution that we have seen amongst many others that will soon be announced at SEMA is the fact that the Chevrolet’s COPO Camaro, the car that is known as being the dedicated dragster that’s not even close to street legal, let alone being able to be titled, the car that has traditionally been a racing machine first and foremost will have the option to go electric now. It seems like a stark contrast from the where the loud and in-your-face COPO has been lingering in the past. That’s not to say that it’ll be only electric though as you’ll still have multiple V8 alternatives.

News has broken that the machine that will go by the name of “eCOPO” is set to have dual electric motors onboard, sparking 700 hp but more excitingly, 600 lb-ft of torque that is on tap at an instant, a feature that you simply don’t get from combustion engines. Another interesting tidbit that we got from the release is that all of this power is being produced by 800-volts that are a direct bolt-in replacement for the current LS series of engines, giving rise to a whole other interesting dynamic of the future when maybe folks will be doing electric swaps in place of LS swaps.

If you follow along with the video below, you’ll be able to get an insight on what one YouTuber thinks of the release of this electric racing machine along with pictures and a little bit more data about what to expect when the car eventually does hit the market. As of now, rumor has it that the electric motor will not come in the eCOPO out of the box but will be an add-on that owners can swap in.
