As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to expand, we can’t help but wonder how concerned we should be. For the time being, it looks like taking precautions is all that we can do. We’re sure that you’ve had it pounded into your head – but we will say it again. Constantly washing your hands and staying away from large crowds when you can is currently the best course of action.

Because of the spread of the virus, we have seen all sorts of gatherings canceled. This isn’t small-time, either. In fact, some of the biggest organizations in the world are taking massive financial hits to keep people safe. Some of the most notable have been the Geneva Autoshow and more recently, the cancellation of the entire NBA season.

Today, the cancellations hit even closer to home.

In a statement by the NHRA, “In consideration of the ever-evolving COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with the recommendation of the Florida governor, NHRA officials are postponing a portion of the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals. Some Sportsman racing will be contested this weekend without ticketed spectators, but the majority of the event has been postponed to a later date.”

As far as what fans can expect, bracket racing will continue as expected. Pro racing will be postponed until a later date, though. The Gator Nationals have become known as one of the biggest events of the year for the NHRA.

This is just the latest in a string of ever-expanding cancellations that has spanned everything from sports to schools and places of business.

It looks like the NHRA might not be alone in closing on the racing front. NASCAR has scheduled a press conference for later today. It wouldn’t shock us if NASCAR and IndyCar push back their seasons in response to the outbreak. MotoGP has already been canceling events as well.
