There are times in racing when we just have to put aside all of the competitiveness that a sport offers. At the end of the day, the safety of our fellow human beings is most important. In this situation, we ride along with a pass at the Heartland Nats that makes that concept come to life. In this one, Jeremy Ray lines up in his Pro Mod against Erica Enders and we come face-to-face with the situation that is surreally scary.
On this pass, Ray was wheeling his Chevrolet Corvette Pro Mod down the track, when all of a sudden he would lose control. Ray failed to get control back as the car would slide across both lanes on the driver side. It looks like the incident very narrowly avoided becoming a two-car ordeal. When watching it back in slow motion, we were amazed that contact wasn’t made. This was before it would roll completely onto its roof. The car would plow straight into the wall, splintering into a million pieces. This immediately made our stomachs drop all the way to the floor.
Thankfully, with the proper safety equipment and a well-built car, Jeremy ended up being alright. He was able to exit the car under his own power after shaking off the hit. This one did some big-time damage which is a testament to the safety features that these cars are hooked up with.
We wish Ray all the best in getting that back to the track after this one. Even though he was able to maintain his health, the most important part, we know that an incident like this can surely be jarring and a major setback, to say the least. It’s not likely that very much will be able to be recovered from the car in a situation like this.
