Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t hating here. We completely understand that platforms like the Ford Mustang are going to be the most logical to build a racing machine on. Sometimes, it doesn’t make much sense to go out there and spend money just in the name of being different.

However, on the other hand, we can’t help but love when something unique steps up to the plate. When someone rolls up to the starting line with a small tire Chevy Cobalt, it’s going to turn some heads. Since the car is known, on the street, as a front-wheel-drive American tuner style car, this build certainly alters the Cobalt’s roots quite a bit.

Naturally, with these small tire cars, pretty much everything is cut up and changed. We’re sure that there isn’t really too much Cobalt that still exists here. However, the concept is certainly one that we can’t help but take a second look at. Watching the car flying down the track is a ride for the senses.

This time, taking a second look is exactly what theĀ National No Prep Racing AssociationĀ does. In this one, they get us up close and personal with the Cobalt like no other. Under the hood here, we find a twin-turbocharged 417 cubic inch beast by Mike Lough. While the combination is relatively new, It seems to be working pretty well early on.

Down in the video below, we follow along with the cobalt that goes by the name of “Salty.”

This particular footage is pulled from this past year’s Outlaw Armageddon race. There’s just something about a Cobalt going this fast that our brain needs to take a minute to adjust to. It’s certainly hard to deny the cool factor here.
