When it comes to procedures out at sea, you’d better prepare yourself for the worst because if you aren’t paying attention, that worst case scenario will sneak up on you mighty quickly.

When you’re dealing with 208,000 lb of anchor, then that worst case scenario could turn into a pretty ugly and potentially fatal scenario.

This time, we check out a US Navy training procedure that goes wrong when the ship ends up letting out its anchor and losing the entire thing when something goes wrong.

It’s a spectacular sight when the chain runs out and the end of that incredibly large hunk of steel comes whipping around with a vengeance.

Luckily, the crew was trained enough to know that this was the time where you’d want to hop out of the way as to avoid injury. Check out the video below as the spectacular sight unfolds.
