The Little Boosted 6-Cylinder that was way Ahead of its Time

The automotive marketplace is really a strange area to observe. Sometimes, concepts will come around that are way ahead of their time, proving that they can make a certain set of circumstances come together and work great, however, it might not be something that people are exactly ready for. You know how it goes in the world of cars, if a platform or concept comes into existence that the market doesn’t end up widely accepting, there won’t be enough money to back it up and therefore, it would probably fall by the wayside, leaving it to taper off to a group of cult enthusiasts and maybe that concept will revisit the market at later date.

If you haven’t picked up what we’re putting down at this point, we’re talking of that beastly 3.8 L V6 backed up by a turbocharger that was hiding out under the hood of the Buick Grand National. At the time, there were many people that fell in love with this lady in black but, because the v8 was the most commonly modified platform for racing, it would seem like the Grand National would have a short but potent run, lasting five years from 1982-1987. Since the rise and fall of the production of the Grand National, the cars have definitely gathered together quite the following and it seems like, as the years went on, it grew bigger and bigger as the body of people who respected the boosted V6 multiplied as we began to see what it could do with a little bit of modification. Today, the concept of these smaller displacement boosted applications are running rampant and it leads you to wonder what would have come about if a car like the Grand National was born a couple of decades later.
