Why Are 96,000,000 Black Balls on This Reservoir?

In some places, the weather can get unbearably dry to the point where drought restrictions are placed on everyone as to attempt to save water only for the most necessary activities.

With something known as “shade balls,” California is attempting to save water at the LA Reservoir by protecting its quality and therefore eliminating wasted water.

The idea is to protect the water with the small, plastic balls to prevent “sunlight-triggered chemical reactions, deterring birds and other wildlife, and protecting water from rain and wind-blown dust,” according to LA Mayor, Eric Garcetti.

Aside from its usefulness, the process itself is so beyond satisfying that it blows our minds. Check out the video below to witness the satisfaction for yourself!
