New FWD World Record! Honda Goes 7.47 @215 MPH In The 1/4

If you build a heads up drag car, you probably have intentions, or at least aspirations, of setting records. Whether it be class records or grand-slam world records, saying you’re the quickest or fastest in any class or under a particular set of rules is pretty dang cool, and certainly something to aspire to. So what does that say about a team that goes to an event and sets not one, not even two, but three world records in the same weekend?
Well James Kempf and the SpeedFactory Tuning & Fabrication team did just that last weekend at the World Cup Finals at Maryland International Dragway in Budd’s Creek, MD. With the perfect combination of great weather and stellar track conditions, Kempf and Co unleashed their wicked turbocharged front wheel drive Civic on the famed MDIR quarter mile and unleashed a pass that broke the trio of records. And just to prove it wasn’t a one-time fluke, Kempf laid down several comparable runs, including an electric come-from-behind win against a Mustang in the other lane.
Kempf new record book entry includes the following: Fastest front wheel drive car in the world, world’s fastest H-pattern manually-shifted car, and world’s quickest front wheel drive stock chassis (no bars). The run that raised the bar is the second pass in this video, brought to us by the always-amazing Hans Pierre Jr. from Free Life Films, who captured the awesome comeback from high above the track, giving us a unique perspective of the mighty Honda reeling in the opposing Mustang (yes, that sounds backwards, but wait until you see that clip, you’ll understand!)
Congrats go out to Kempf and his team for their hard work in putting this car together to go out and set records. Only time will tell how long the records stand, but if we’ve learned one thing about setting the bar, it’s that somebody out there is already looking to raise it even higher. Special thanks to Yerral at UnikDragPhotos for the excellent photos of this historic pass!
