When it comes to looks, those of us in the drag racing community have learned not to judge a car on its appearance. Many times, that would be an incredibly bad and potentially costly mistake.
Just because something looks like it’s held together with duct tape, chewing gum, and some Elmer’s Glue doesn’t necessarily mean that it isn’t a fierce competitor that’s ready to go to war. They’re going to want you to think that the car that you’re lining up against is a clapped out piece of trash.
This time, we give you a stark example of exactly what we are talking about when we check out a Chevrolet Nova that doesn’t exactly look like a speed demon but might provide you with a little bit of a surprise if you aren’t ready for it. Judging by the rusted exterior, non-working headlight, and otherwise drab appearance, this one doesn’t really stand out.
To sum it all up, on the outside, it might look like this car had just been plucked from a junkyard to the untrained eye, but for those who know what to look out for, they might expect what’s coming next. Personally, seeing a Nova in this good of condition with a nice coat of patina on the body was a rare treat as cars tend to either be falling into the ground or completely restored. This middle ground is something special.
Instead of a dilapidated power plant under the hood, this old school Chevy has been completely overhauled under the hood with 406 cubic inches of power alongside a set of turbos to up the ante even more.
When all is said and done, the car is able to pound its way to single digits in the quarter mile on a set of drag radials. The owner says that he is still getting used to running a smaller tire so you can expect that number to go even deeper when he lays down some practice passes!
