Dangerous Mexican Highway Design Will Make You Crash Just Looking At It

If you’re somebody who has only driven in one area or another, you might think that driving is relatively similar across the world. Sure, some areas might just drive on the opposite side of the road compared to wherever you’re at but mostly, it should be pretty similar, right? While that might be somewhat true, you find some very odd things in certain areas that will make you raise an eyebrow and wonder what exactly the person behind the design of such a roadway was thinking when they got to work, looking to make things flow smoothly and executing in an obscure fashion.

This time, we check out a section of roadway that, to be honest, turns out to be pretty darn confusing and looks like using it would be quite dangerous. The section of roadway is laid down in Mexico as Route 150 provides quite the surprising situation for anybody who is ready to travel down it or thinks that they’re ready. Instead of making drivers select either the left or right-hand lane, depending on which way they’re going, instead, the road forces drivers to use both lanes depending on which section you’re on, interchanging them with a system of arrows. Yes, it really is as confusing as it sounds.

If you’re wondering why somebody would even bother to design a road in such a way, from what we’re told, the idea is to help vehicles maintain their momentum, more specifically, bigger trucks, so that there are fewer traffic jams on the winding road. However, while we were unable to really find any outstanding accident statistics, this really seems like something that would facilitate quite the number of fender benders.
